We’ve been adopting shelter cats for over 20 years, and got our first cat from Pintler Pets in 2012. We looked around and saw a shelter that was running on a shoestring, had to make every dollar count, yet also took in and kept cats who really needed homes and might need time to find that “right” family.  We wanted to help, not only by adopting some of the older and more challenging cats but also by donating what we could.

We’ve given to Pintler Pets every year since then.  In particular, we’re happy to have helped with two special projects.  About 10 years ago, we learned that the shelter wanted to build a new, better patio space so the cats could be outdoors in the warmer months.  We contributed to buy the materials, and volunteers built Pintler’s outdoor enclosure.

This past year, another special project came our way.  Taking care of cats means doing a lot of laundry to keep blankets, towels, and other supplies clean and the cats healthy.  The shelter staff told us they could really use a washer and drier on the cat side of the building, and we were able to make that a reality.  We hope this will make daily life at the shelter better for the cats, and the volunteers too.  

For more than 20 years I was a volunteer at a shelter in another state, so my husband and I know firsthand how many animals need help, and how challenging but also rewarding it can be to meet that need.  This is just one small way we try to make things a little better for the animals that share our world.
