Buttercup

Adult Female, Great Dane Mix

Resident since: May 2024
Good in a home
without: Cats

Buttercup (aka Butters) came to us as an owner surrender through local animal control and was later transferred to Pintler Pets. While we weren’t given details about her past, what we do know is who she is now—and she is a joyful, affectionate girl who truly loves life.

She absolutely lights up when it’s time for a walk. She’s a big, strong, active dog who will thrive with someone ready for an adventure buddy and a little extra muscle on the leash.

She does best with older children and may be a bit too strong and rambunctious for younger kids, though that can always depend on the child and the environment. She has shown a strong interest in cats, but we haven’t been able to do a formal cat test yet.

We suspect Butters may be a purebred Great Dane—or at least mostly Dane—but her full heritage is a bit of a mystery. What’s not a mystery is her big heart and her readiness for a home where she can finally settle in and be someone’s best friend.

Butters has been waiting patiently. If you’ve been looking for a big dog with an even bigger personality, she might just be your girl.

Benny

Male, Black Lab Mix

Resident since: May 2025
Good in a home with:
Other dogs, children

Benny has quickly become a very special dog to everyone here. We estimate Benny is around 5 years old and weighs about 55 pounds, and despite everything he’s been through, his gentle spirit shines through.

Benny is calm, sweet, and deeply appreciative of affection. He doesn’t demand attention—he soaks it in quietly, as if he’s still learning that he’s safe. We dream of placing him in a loving, patient home where he can truly bloom where he is planted.

He can be shy and may retreat from new people or situations at first, so he’ll do best with someone who understands that trust takes time. We sometimes call Benny “special needs”—or maybe he’s just special. He loves car rides, enjoys walking on a leash, and would thrive in a calm environment with someone willing to move at his pace.

Benny has survived so much. Now all he needs is a soft place to land and a human who believes in him.

Duke & Buddy

Males, Treeing Walker Coonhound

Resident since: August 2024
Good in a home with:
Other dogs

Duke and Buddy likely spent much of their lives as kennel dogs, which means they’re still learning some of the finer points of home life and social graces. But they are hounds—and hounds come with personality. Duke loves action, bays and barks, and keeps life interesting in the best way. There’s a good chance these boys were used for hunting, and that hound instinct is still very much alive.

These boys would thrive with someone who understands hound behavior, appreciates a little noise, and enjoys an active, engaging companion. With patience, consistency, and a sense of humor, they have the potential to really shine.

They are not a polished, couch-potato kind of dog—but for the right person, they could be an incredibly fun and loyal addition to the family.

  • Baby (Male)

    Resident since: March 2023
    Prefers a home without: Children

Baby was an owner surrender because of a move. Baby is a large cat who loves snacks and his toys. His rather ample girth is not up for discussion, says Baby! He is self sufficient but likes to be social on his own terms

  • Max (Male)

    Resident since: October 2023

Max was an owner surrender on 10/04/2023. He is about 2 years and 9 months old. He tends to hide during the day. With time, he will hopefully get used to us. He may do best at being a 'working' cat as a barn or shop cat keeping the vermin population at bay.

  • Melva (Female)

    Resident since: October 2023

Here it is, two years later, and Melva is still with us. She is still a little bit of a scared-y cat but gets along with all the other cats in the kitten room. She is a calm, sweet soul who would do well in a shop or barn... or your house if you are patient!

  • Toni (Female)

    Resident since: October 2023

Toni was born to a stray mother in Missoula. She stopped feeding them at 3 weeks old. They were then fostered until they were 7 weeks old. Toni is now old enough to be spayed, updated on her vaccines and ready for adoption. She is cautious whenever a new person comes in the kitten room. She will need a long period of adjustment in her new home. "Time, love and tenderness" as the song goes will win her over....

  • Dabney (Male)

    Resident since: March 2025

Dabney was a stray found by the middle school in Anaconda on 03/12/2025, and was transferred to Pintler Pets on 04/16/2025. He has no tail, and is already neutered by animal control and the local veterinarian. We don't know much about him yet as he has just arrived... He seems like a sweet boy. He really is outgoing and wants to get out of that isolation kennel and mix with the other cats. Update: Turns out that Dabney is a great lap cat. He also lounges in our outside catio and also loves being in one of our cat towers. We have discovered the Dabney has promoted himself to our unofficial "office cat". He loves people and turns himself inside out on a lap.

  • Kitcat (Senior Female)

Kitcat is yet another poor soul whose human mom died and there was no one to take her in. She is a sweet, quiet and affectionate girl, with eyes that will drill into you until she gets her treats. Kitcat can have issues with some, but not all cats. She is going on 13 years old. Kitcat likes the canned foods over the dry but will eat both. She also would do well in a quieter environment.
